We have been active in the Democratic Republic of Congo since 2018.

For all these years, we have been collaborating with mobile network operator Vodacom Congo (DRC) to produce population and mobility estimates for development and humanitarian purposes (see past publications), with a particular focus on childhood vaccination as a technical partner of the DRC's Expanded Program on Immunisation (EPI).

These estimates, now publicly available, are presented in monthly reports on mobility and population trends by health zone, as well as national overview reports estimating mobility over the last 12 months across the country.

This document is a methodological report describing the data and methods used to arrive at these estimates for version 2.0, published in February 2026.

For any questions or information about our estimates of population and mobility in the DRC, the methods presented in this document, or the analysis of mobile phone metadata, please contact us at rdc@flowminder.org.

As part of this project, we provide the EPI and the chief medical officers (médecins chefs de zone) in each health zone with monthly reports on mobility and population trends in each health zone where we can produce estimates, as well as summary reports estimating mobility over 12 months at the national level.

This document is a methodological report describing the data and methods used to arrive at these estimates.
