Climate-related disasters are displacing people at record levels.

In 2024, over a million people were displaced every week, and most of these displacements were caused by weather-related events. At the same time, humanitarian funding is under intense pressure, widening the gap between growing needs and available resources.

Mobile operator data offers a powerful, yet underused, solution.

With around six billion unique subscribers globally, mobile networks capture population-scale movement patterns that can guide preparedness, response and recovery. Managed responsibly, these data provide life-saving insights at the speed and scale crises demand.

Our mission:
The Mobile Resilience Initiative is a not-for-profit coalition convened by Flowminder to unlock the potential of mobile operator data for climate adaptation and resilience.

It brings together mobile operators, technology partners and humanitarian agencies to turn this potential into action.

We are seeking leaders who can raise awareness of the industry’s role as a key force in climate adaptation and resilience, and who are ready to demonstrate that leadership in action.

Join the initiative

We seek forward-thinkers to help us:

  • Define readiness through clear, actionable standards and activation playbooks
  • Set benchmarks that enable consistent, scalable data use in crises
  • Safeguard trust through privacy-preserving principles and governance
  • Show impact through real-world readiness pilots and industry collaboration

Our goal:
Establish a global standard for mobile data readiness, ensuring operators can provide reliable, privacy-safe insights within 24 hours of a crisis.

Join the initiative

We are calling on mobile network operators to lead the way. Join a coalition of changemakers who are turning connectivity into resilience:

  • Sign up your organisation (see below) as a founding member, and position your organisation as a leader in climate resilience.
  • Delegate a representative to join the Mobile Resilience Initiative working group.
  • Contribute expertise and support to sustain coordination.
