The Global Migration Group, an inter-agency group of the UN, invited Dr. Bengtsson to present a speech on the impact of the big data revolution on migration, and how mobile operator data can be used to monitor widespread population mobility.

Dr. Bengtsson was invited to present Flowminder/WorldPop’s research methodology the Global Migration Group (GMG) international conference in New York, 2015. Flowminder’s novel population mobility monitoring techniques have the potential to be used in widespread migration analysis, while WorldPop’s open-source datasets can provide high-resolution (100x100m) population characteristic mapping in great detail. It was this capability that Dr. Bengtsson emphasised in his presentation, drawing on case studies of Flowminder’s progress in infectious disease and crisis response mapping.
