Mobile World Congress (MWC) is the world's largest gathering for the mobile industry, organised by the GSMA industry association. The 2015 MWC in Barcelona gathered over 93,000 mobile professionals from 200 countries, allowing the industry's most pressing issues to be addressed in the global spotlight. The use of data for emergency response is one such issue. Linus Bengtsson, executive director of Flowminder, discussed the problems facing the use of mobile data for emergency response in a panel debate.

The GSMA acknowledge the value of Call Data Record (CDR) analysis in a MWC seminar session between specialists in the field. Kenth Engø-Monsen, senior data scientist at Telenor Research, discussed cutting-edge research in population mapping during infectious disease outbreaks, a field in which Telenor and Flowminder have partnered.
