In September, UNFPA released the 2024 Common Operational Dataset on Population Statistics (COD-PS) for Haiti.

For the first time, our estimates (2020-2024), available on the Haiti Mobility Data Platform, were used as a comparator for the 2024 Haiti dataset, and referenced throughout the technical accompanying document available on HDX.

This highlights the importance of our work for population estimation in the country, where such data are extremely limited and where the insecurity situation has likely been considerably affecting population distribution due to mobility and displacements.

Common Operational Datasets or CODs, are authoritative reference datasets needed to support operations and decision-making for all actors in a humanitarian response.

They are 'best available' datasets and serve as a foundational baseline for humanitarian planning and needs assessments. UNFPA leads the development of these datasets using the best available data, prioritising quality and usability for humanitarian actors like UN and non-governmental organisations. Common Operational Datasets on Population Statistics (COD-PS) are one of the three mandatory Common Operational Datasets (CODs) within the UN humanitarian system, alongside Administrative Boundaries (COD-AB) and Humanitarian Profile (COD-HP), to ensure consistent information for response efforts.
