Mobile phone data can transform how governments understand populations - discover the latest global training courses to help make that happen!

The World Bank Group’s Global Data Facility and International Telecommunication Union, in collaboration with Flowminder and others, have now launched two courses designed to strengthen how mobile operator data are used for official statistics and policy.

Our mission is to make data work for the public good, and these courses, for which we led the training consortium, are designed to help governments, national statistics offices, and practitioners do exactly that: turn mobile network data into timely, responsible, and policy-relevant insights.

100824 Global Data Facility Country Cohort Workshop Day 4 140 F

Course 1: Foundations in Mobile Phone Data for Policy

A practical, non-technical introduction for decision-makers and practitioners. Explore what MPD can (and cannot) reveal, how it has been applied in real-world policy contexts, and how to design and implement such initiatives responsibly.

These courses bring together lessons from real-world deployments and reflect the collective expertise of partners across the consortium.

We’re grateful to our collaborators, including Positium, Nommon, and The University of Tokyo, and to the World Bank for driving this important initiative forward.

Both courses are free to access. If you’re working at the intersection of data, statistics, and policy, we encourage you to explore them.
